The Shadow Guild Series

Hello, all!

This is a post regarding one of the series I am currently writing, The Shadow Guild Series. The story takes place in the fictional world of Calduminia and follows a young assassin named Caterina Dunmore. It is a fantasy romance with magic, epic quests, betrayals, deceit, and all the things we love!

But more than that, it is a story of healing, of finding one’s own identity and becoming more than what we thought we could be, choosing to intrinsically do good in a world that may wish to repay that good with evil.

As it stands right now, the first book in the series, A Promise of Stones and Flowers, as well as the sequel, A Trial of Ice and Fire, is complete and available for purchase on Amazon. A third installment is in the works, and more information will be released on that in the weeks to come! More books for the series are planned, and this post will be updated as those plans draw closer. Below is a general overview and breakdown of the books for this series.

Also, just as a full disclaimer, I do NOT use AI in ANY of my work. Everything is written by me. The artwork for the covers and any additional material is done by artists (namely, my brother), and even everything on my website is all done by humans. I believe in the innate creativity of mankind and do not believe AI should ever be used in lieu of people. Especially not in art.

But I do still use em dashes and will die before anyone takes them away from me. It’s NOT AI. I just like them.

A Promise of Stones and Flowers by AG Patrick

Synopsis: Taken from her home on the isle of Dunamis at an early age, raised on the streets of Penichros, then later adopted by a band of assassins known as the Shadow Guild, Caterina lived a harsh but ultimately happy life with her friends William and Isobel. On the eve of her eighteenth birthday, after her rather gruesome initiation to become an official assassin, Cat and her two friends are sent to the rich land of Opoulsios to start their own branch of their beloved guild.

But the journey becomes far too complicated when a shadow from her past, Theodore Branwyn, son of the very man who abducted her from her home all those years ago, returns. No matter how hard she tries and how much she fights it, Cat can’t stop herself from being drawn to Theodore, the future Kingmaker she’s sworn to kill.

The story follows the two star-crossed lovers as they race along rooftops and struggle with the desire for more than what fate has forbidden them to have, all while the world itself and the two organizations they’ve both aligned themselves with hold daggers at each of their throats.

What to Expect: There is much fighting and thievery, tavern brawls and banquets, all of the classic fantasy-styled world settings many of us love. There is a heavy emphasis on communication, healthy boundaries, and nuance while also still leaving room for characters to grow, have flaws, and breathe.

Content Discretion: This book has absolutely no profanity or explicit sexual content, though the romance between the protagonists is a driving force, so there is kissing. Death is described in detail in some instances given the nature of the protagonist’s occupation and the harsh environment both Caterina, Theodore, and all of their companions are raised. Overall, I personally feel that this book is safe for readers ages twelve and up.

Overall Rating: Full disclaimer, this rating is completely biased because I did write the book, but it’s definitely a 5/5. (Yes, this is sarcastic. But in all seriousness, it was a book I found myself falling in love with and incapable of putting down despite being the one who wrote it.)

A Trial of Ice and Fire, by AG Patrick

Synopsis: The story of Caterina Dunmore and Theodore Branwyn continues. With volatile magic she can’t control, a secret wedding they’re attempting to keep hidden, and the looming threat of the Kingmaker at every turn, this story tests the relationships of the protagonists and raises the stakes at every turn. It covers topics of identity, betrayal, and intrinsic value, as well as showing more of the world of Calduminia as Caterina and Theodore travel through the entire land in search of a pink-eyed priest capable of marrying them.

What to Expect: There is, of course fighting and violence, though there is nothing too graphic. There is also a lot of magic, dancing, and a great many things we all love when it comes to fantasy stories. Weddings, unique traditions, monsters, mayhem, betrayal, and all sorts of espionage is also present. And fun snowball fights.

Content Discretion: As mentioned before, there are graphic and violent scenes. Several near-death situations, multiple attempted abductions, and other high-stakes scenarios. There is also mention of sexual intimacy between married characters, but it is strictly closed door with nothing graphic. Nothing is actually done “on screen” other than kissing. Like the first book, this one is safe for people ages twelve and up.

Overall Rating: 5/5. Yes, this is still biased. You can read it and see if I’m wrong.
